Plans to establish a regional court that will pursue criminal and human rights violations across state borders have been made public by the Alliance of Sahel States, which is made up of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. Officials claim that the establishment of the Sahelian Criminal and Human Rights Court will create “an area of peace, security, and sustainable development” by bringing the three nations’ legal systems into harmony.
Alliance members explicitly rejected “the negative influence of imperialist powers…” while using international judicial models as inspiration.
