If you live in Lagos, you already know the drill. You check the time, add one extra hour for “small go-slow”, and still show up late with a story. Traffic in this city is not just something that happens to us on the road. It has become part of how we plan our days, how we work, how we eat, and even how we feel.
Now the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat has put a name to it and the name has got everybody talking. Speaking at PODFEST Naija, a gathering of podcasters, storytellers and other creatives, Hamzat said Lagos traffic is more than a transport problem. In his words it is “just a lifestyle“. He pointed to anyone who has crossed the Third Mainland Bridge at 6pm as proof.
He also had a message for the creatives themselves: having a big audience is good but you still need a real plan to earn money from it. He added that Lagos is backing ideas with funding, including about 90 research and development projects. Hamzat is also the APC candidate for the 2027 governorship election, so as you can imagine, his words are being read in more ways than one.
