President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s economy is regaining stability and global respect following his administration’s sweeping reforms in just two years.
Speaking at the State House in Abuja while receiving the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Oladunni Olaoye, and other royal fathers, the President said his government’s tough economic decisions were necessary to halt years of corruption, smuggling, fake records, and the manipulation of the currency market that eroded national integrity.
“We had to take those actions,” Tinubu said. “The bleeding has stopped. Haemorrhage is gone; the patient is alive.”
Beyond the economy, Tinubu highlighted investments in education, including the newly launched National Education and Learning Fund (NELFUND), designed to prevent students from dropping out due to poverty. He also pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects as proof of his administration’s determination to modernize the country.
The President assured the monarch that his requests for improved power, water, agriculture, and road infrastructure in Ogbomosoland would be addressed, promising closer collaboration with relevant ministries to boost local development and agricultural self-sufficiency.
Oba Olaoye praised Tinubu’s removal of fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms, which he said were already yielding results, while commending the award of the long-delayed Oyo–Ogbomoso Road dualisation contract. He, however, urged government support in transforming local industries such as mango and cashew production into global enterprises.
The meeting also carried social and political undertones, with the monarch lauding federal appointments of Ogbomosoland sons to key positions, and security concerns implicit in calls for stronger infrastructure and agricultural resilience.
