At Igbokoda, Ondo State, a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) ATR-42 military aircraft crashed near the naval base at Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday, killing all 32 people aboard and turning a routine military support mission into one of the country’s deadliest recent air disasters.

The aircraft, with tail number NGR 931, was flying from Benin City to Lagos when air traffic controllers lost contact with it at about 9:13 a.m. Despite attempts to re-establish communication with the crew, the flight disappeared from radar and later came down in a swampy area close to the naval base.

The dead comprised 25 passengers and seven crew members, according to the information released by authorities. President Bola Tinubu and aviation officials confirmed that there were no survivors.
