Lost Wonder Resurfaces: One of the Seven Wonders of the World, Alexandria’s Ancient Lighthouse Found After 600 Years

A team of archaeologists working in Egypt’s eastern harbor has identified 22 massive stone blocks belonging to the legendary Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Hidden beneath the Mediterranean for more than 600 years, the newly documented remains offer fresh insight into a monument that once guided ships and symbolized human ingenuity.

The recovered structures include colossal lintels, door jambs, thresholds, and sections of original pavement, each weighing between 70 and 80 tons. Researchers believe these stones formed the lighthouse’s main entrance, an architectural gateway that blended Egyptian construction traditions with Greek design principles.
