Rabat, Morocco’s parliamentary election has brought renewed attention to a challenge that extends beyond the parliamentary election ballot box. a growing disconnect between the country’s economic ambitions and the daily experience of its young population.

Almost a year after the GenZ 212-led youth protests exposed anger over healthcare, education, employment and government accountability, those concerns remain embedded in Morocco’s political and economic debate. The September 23, 2026 election offered parties an opportunity to address the grievances of a generation increasingly questioning whether economic growth is translating into jobs, affordable housing, quality public services and greater social mobility.

The scale of the employment challenge is particularly significant. The International Monetary Fund estimates that youth unemployment among Moroccans aged 15 – 24 reached 37.3% in 2025, while 25.2% of young people were neither in employment nor education or training. The problem is also affecting educated young people; university graduates recorded unemployment of 25.7% in 2024. As for most young Moroccans, the dissatisfaction is not about finding a first job, but about the ability to establish an independent socioeconomy, and the government system is promoting growth without enough opportunities for the youth.
